8 SEO rules to apply for your Google friendly blog

In the world of digital marketing an optimized blog can do miracles for your business. SEO is great for your website’s pages. It really pushes your website higher in the search results. And this is just one side of the coin. Your regularly optimized blog posts can actually draw more visitors to your website and boost your popularity.

A great difficulty for any copywriter is to design a unique and interesting blog post which in the same time is fully optimized for search engines. But once you get familiar with our SEO golden rules – content writing will become your biggest passion.

So let’s see how it works:

Rule №1: Find the perfect keyword

That’s right! Searching for keyword is your key to creating successful blog content. Usually we see blog writers who create articles based on useless keywords and wonder: Why nobody reads my articles?

This is the most important step of your blog writing journey. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, Serpstat, Keyword Tool and many more. We suggest you include not only simple keywords like “essay”, but also more complex keywords like “how to write an essay”.

When you finally choose a suitable keyword, you would need to place it in:

  • The main title of the article – as close to the beginning of the title as possible.
  • The subtitles.
  • The first and the last sentence of the article.
  • The alt text of your images included in the article.
  • The whole text with repetition between 1-4%.
  • The metadescription of the article.
  • Always bold the keyword in the text.

Rule №2: Titles and subtitles (H1, H2, H3, H4 and on)

There are many writers who prefer to come up with a title after they write the whole text.

NO!

The better tactic is to start with the title. Make it intriguing. Create willingness in your future reader to open the article and breathe it in.

Let us guide you how to do that.

The most successful titles are the ones who include figures and numbers. Readers just love to measure everything.

The following scheme introduces you to examples of titles starting with the best one to draw your reader’s attention and finishing with the worst one:

  1. Including numbers:
    • “5 techniques for creating a fascinating essay”
  2. Addressing a suggestion/challenge:
    • “What you need to know about creating an unforgettable essay”
  3. “How to…” titles:
    • “How to write a good essay?”
  4. Neutral:
    • “Techniques for writing a good essay”
  5. Asking a question:
    • “Do you know how to write a good essay?”

If you want Google, Bing!, Yahoo! to show the whole title in the search results, keep your title under 72 symbols (including the space).

When you complete this first step of creating the most eye-catching title, you are ready to organize your article by structuring it in subtitles.

Title 1 (which is your main title for the article)

Title 2 (your subtitles should start from this point)

Title 3

Title 4

Title 5

Important: Make sure to include the keyword in the subtitles. Also experiment with adding more complex variations of the keyword.

Rule № 3: Uniqueness

Forget about copy-paste! Just take it out of your mind! Search engines put penalty for any content which is stolen. In order to check the uniqueness of your article, use this Russian program – Advego Plagiatus – which analyzes your text and gives you a full summery of the websites which have the same sentences, paragraphs and wording in their content.

Having this information will help you paraphrase your sentences and reach a high level of uniqueness. If you write your text all alone, you will notice that your text would be 96-99% unique. Pretty cool, right?

So just relax, tap into your inner creativity and let it flow. Be yourself and everyone will be impressed – the search engines, your readers and you!

Rule №4: readability

This is very much connected with the amount of subtitles you have in the text. The worst thing for reader’s eye is to see the whole text with no paragraphs, no subtitles, no bullets, no images. In such case the usefulness of your article would be with no importance.

Tips for getting high readability score:

  • Use bullets. They slide your reader’s eye through the content.
  • Use images – relevant to your content.
  • Make sure the text between the subtitles is no more than 300 words.
  • Use paragraphs with no more than 4 lines.
  • Start your article with short sentences and small paragraphs.
  • Use short sentences in general.

Rule №5: Metadescription

The meta description is the text which appears under the title and the link for the article in the search results. This gives your reader a glance of what the article is all about.

The general rules for writing meta description are:

Should be under 150 symbols, preferably no more than 113 – if you want search engines to show it fully.

Should be in the form of call to action.

Like:

“Find out how to create an impressive SEO optimized article and draw more visitors to your website. Read now!” (109 symbols with the intervals)

Rule № 6: Building links

Search engines just love to see internal and external hyperlinks. Be mindful and mainly link your articles with your own products and services. Also use external links from trusted websites – but don’t go to extremes.

And remember – bold your links.

Rule № 7: Images, videos, alt text

Did you know that you article would have a better chance to rank high if you include more images and videos? Well make this rule a strategy!

Important: The source of your images and videos is very important. It is like the copy-pasted text – it is all about uniqueness. If you make your own images and videos – you are safe. Otherwise use websites for free and paid stock image download like pixabay, pexels, stocksnap and more.

Remember – use the keyword in the description of the image and the alt text of the image. This is essential for ranking.

Rule № 8: Share your masterpiece in social media

When you share your article in social online space you get shortcut to your ranking. SEO spiders get to your article faster. This share is a signal for them that there is new content on your website which is looking forward to be crawled.
